A luxury self-catering cottage in Eglingham, Northumberland

Here are our guests' comments taken from our guest book over the last year or so.

Everybody has said it all! We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in this fabulous cottage, celebrating our ruby wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful way to remember our special anniversary. The weather started with rain and then the sun came out and we were able to explore the Northumberland countryside, Alnwick Castle, Barterbooks, Lindisfarne, Cragside, Bamburgh Castle and beach were all amazing. The Tankerville Arms is recommended - not too far to walk home? A very peaceful relaxing holiday in this 5 star cottage.

T and J. Cambridge.

A lovely cottage, a beautiful garden and a kind host made for an excellent holiday (but for the weather!). Eglingham makes an ideal centre for exploring Northumberland.

Best wishes,

P and C Bridge of Allen.

We have enjoyed another wonderful, peaceful and relaxing holiday in your beautiful college. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality. It is much appreciated. We look forward to our next visit.

With our very best wishes,

V and JC Norwich.

Thank you David and Barbara for your warm welcome and beautiful cottage. It is 5*!! We have enjoyed exploring Northumberland and benefited from some glorious sunny weather. Enjoyed a couple of excellent meals at the Tankerville Arms – could not be any closer. Thank you for the welcome pack in the cottage. It was much appreciated. We look forward to our next.

With our best wishes,

J and L Stourbridge.

Mill Cottage is a perfect holiday home! Thank you for creating a cottage that lives up to the 5-star description. We have enjoyed every moment. The weather has been perfect for seeing the best of the scenery and the coast. We still have a long list of places to visit so we definitely hope to return. Holy Island, Billy Shiel's boat trip to Farne islands and College Pass not to be missed. Back to earth with a bang tomorrow!

Best wishes,

J and S Horton Norfolk

PS the Fishing Boat in at Boulmer is great!

We have had a lovely week here – we have really enjoyed staying in this beautiful cottage in this lovely peaceful village. It has been great to go for walks directly from the Cottage – up on onto Beanley Moor and Eglingham Moor. Also enjoyed driving through the beautiful Cheviots – had a good walk at Kirk Newton – up to Iron Age Hill Forts on West Hill and St. Gregory's Hill. We've been so lucky with the weather and had a lovely stroll along the beach at Low Newton along to Embleton - lovely crab sandwich at the Ship at Newton. We ate a couple of times at the Tankerville Arms – would definitely recommend the Sunday lunch there.

Thanks for a great week, we would love to come back again,

K and C, York.

We have had a wonderful relaxing week in Mill Cottage. We have stayed in many Premier Cottages and this is one of the best. Everything in it is of the highest standard and we are going home completely rested and refreshed. We have been in Northumberland many times but never tire of visiting the lovely villages along the coast. We have been very lucky with the weather with only one day of rain. The rest of the week has been glorious although very cold and it has been lovely coming back in the afternoon, lighting fire and sitting enjoying a glass of wine.

Thank you, David and Barbara, for your hospitality and the lovely welcome pack.

S and D Balerno Edinburgh.

As good as ever, hopefully we will be back. We enjoyed The Pack Horse at Ellingham for a meal. 'Ad Gefrin' was an interesting experience and something we had not done before, also Alnwick Castle was a good experience and well run. We had not been for many years. Plus all the beautiful beaches and walks.

Thank you again,

J and M Ashwell Herts.

Wonderful break in a wonderful region of Britain. Full variation of weather but dramatic scenery on the coast. We found the majority of people we encountered to be very friendly and pleasant. Only problem was the fast driver brigade coming up behind in a rush to get through. Excellent accommodation and very friendly staff at the pub across the road.

B and S South Yorkshire.

Dear Barbara,
What a wonderful two-week holiday we have had in Mill Cottage. Peaceful, tranquil and so good for the soul. We go home restored, relaxed and energised. Thank you so much for everything and especially your hospitality. We look forward to May 2025.

With our very best wishes, V and J C Norwich.

Lovely stay at Mill Cottage. Beautiful cottage. Thank you David and Barbara for the welcome pack. We were very lucky with the weather. Beautiful part of the country. Pub across the road was very nice.

A and N East Yorkshire.

Another perfect week in Mill Cottage – our 7th stay and that says it all! David and Barbara are very welcoming and always happy to offer recommendations about the local area. Mill Cottage is so comfortable and well appointed. We are always a little sad when our week comes to an end and its time to head home. Thank you, David and Barbara for your hospitality and welcome pack.

D and M Cheshire.

Cottage "first class" and well appointed. Pub over the road, excellent and lots to do and see close at hand.

Many thanks,

D and KP.

We have had a great week staying in this lovely well-appointed cottage. We have enjoyed visiting: Alnwick Castle, Belsay Hall (English Heritage), Wallington (National Trust) Chillingham Castle (Historic Houses), Howick Hall and Gardens. The Tankerville Arms, across the road, has good food, as does the Jolly Fisherman, Craster, and the Fish Shack at Amble. Thank you David Barbara for the welcome pack which was much appreciated.

L and C Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Another perfect week based here at Mill cottage. Overall, the weather has been kind, so lots of beach walks, our favourites being Bamburgh and Warkworth. David and Barbara recommended a drive to Melrose and Kelso – passing through lovely scenery – and both towns are well worth a visit. Have enjoyed nice meals at the Tankerville & the Fishing Boat Inn (Boulmer) and the 'FBI' also has wonderful coastal views. Thanks, as always, to David and Barbara, your warm welcome and hospitality. We look forward to our next visit!

With our best wishes,

D and I A Yorkshire.

We have a very much enjoyed our first trip to Northumberland. Done some lovely coastal walks. Farne Islands boat trip was a real highlight. Fascinated by Cragside and what a setting for a cricket ground at Bamburgh. Used Tankerville Arms several times for a drink early doors and a really good meal there on our last night.

The cottage is a real joy and an absolute treat to stay in. The perfect base.

Thank you,
J and M D Staffordshire.

A great weekend of fantastic cottage and beautiful area. Weather was okay generally but the chilly days never spoiled our trips to coast and countryside. Many thanks,

J and D Hertfordshire.

We have had a lovely weekend at Mill Cottage, the accommodation is of a very high standard. The gardens around the cottage are beautiful. Over the past week we have enjoyed visiting Bamburgh, Alnwick, Craster, Alnmouth and Holy Island. We had lovely meals at Potted Lobster Bamburgh and Beadnell Towers and Kitchen. Looking forward to returning to the area in the near future.

M and SG South Yorkshire.

Mill Cottage – OUTSTANDING! We have stayed in many places but what a pleasure to have sharp knives in the kitchen! Your bookshelves have been a joy - such diversity, thank you for sharing. We have had a great week despite mixed weather – luckily we have appropriate clothing! So many such wonderful walks, coastal, inland of those in between. Beaches stretch for miles, hills with amazing vistas – Cragside (NT) is a must. As is Holy Island, Lindisfarne Castle is well worth a visit and why not sit for a few moments in St Mary's Church? Thank you, David and Barbara, a pleasure to meet you (thank you, too, for the lovely welcome pack).

P and S Torpichen (West Lothian).

Really enjoyed our weeks holiday in your beautiful comfortable cottage. Sat out on the patio and appreciated lovely cottage garden. Ideal area from which to visit beaches or hills. White Swan Warrrenford, excellent Sunday lunch. Many thanks to our hosts for the welcome pack – much appreciated.

Our very best wishes, J and B Emley, West Yorkshire.

We have had a great fortnight here in Mill Cottage which is so clean and comfortable. Thank you David and Barbara for the generous welcome goodies. They were much appreciated. We have enjoyed walking along the fabulous beaches Beadnell, Bamburgh and Alnmouth to name a few. Cragside and Wallington National Trust properties were a delight as was a visit to the Ford and Etal Estate. We had a fantastic Sunday lunch at Beadnell Towers and also a good meal at the local pub. No visit to this area is complete without a visit to Holy Island and also Barter Books in Alnwick. Thank you for your hospitality. We hope to return and will definitely recommend,

Best wishes, I and J Louth Lincolnshire.

Our fourth year in this beautiful cottage for our wedding anniversary ( 63 years!) Beautiful scenery, wonderful people and even beautiful weather… What more can one ask!! Many thanks, Barbara and David,

H and B.

On arrival, David was there to greet us. A true gentleman and very informative of the area. A Farne Island trip from Seahouses to see the seals and puffins was fabulous. Railway from Heatherslaw to Etal, with tea and cake at Lavender Tea Rooms was lovely. A working Mill at Heatherslaw is worth a visit, too. Chillingham Castle is a must especially for ghost hunters 'Woooo!' Alnwick Castle and Gardens are amazing. However, entrance to each attraction made for an expensive day. Fabulous beach and walking at Alnmouth. Ice cream Parlour at Amble delicious! Sunday lunch and evening meals are highly recommended at the Tankerville Arm. Having stayed in several holiday cottages, Mill Cottage is the best we have experienced. It is in immaculate.

Best wishes, T and T Nottingham.

A wonderful weekend in Northumberland. Cottage is fantastic, so homely and welcoming with a beautiful interior. A big thank you for the welcome pack, so thoughtful and very useful especially for the 1st cup of tea on arrival after a long journey! The surrounding countryside is stunning. We particularly liked Bamburgh and Lindisfarne. If you like browsing around antique shops there is one next to the Hedgeley Services and quite a few in Wooler. Cragside House is well worth a visit and you can walk and drive around the estate, a picnic would be great in warmer weather. Thank you to our hosts and we enjoyed our chats with David.

D and P M South Lincolnshire.

We have had a fabulous day in your beautiful cottage which exudes charm and elegance. The weather hasn't been the best but didn't dampen our spirits! We return home with happy memories of our time here spent together and eager anticipation of other stays to come. Thank you so much, David and Barbara,

With our very best wishes, V and J C Norwich

PS thank you for my birthday card - so very kind and thoughtful x

It's all been said! We have enjoyed our stay in this beautiful corner of Northumberland. Our 5th visit to Mill Cottage – for us it ticks all the boxes! Thank you David and Barbara.

C and T Perth and Kinross.

Thank you, David and Barbara, for another week in your lovely cottage. We have walked many of the coastal paths, been to Cragside and on 'Billy Shield's Boat'. All were enjoyable. Whilst in Bamburgh, we went in the church. It is full of history and quite beautiful. We particularly enjoyed eating at The Pack Horse in Ellingham and the Potted Lobster in Bamburgh.
Best wishes J and M

Just perfect x 3 – Mill Cottage, Northumberland and, not least, The Hosts – Barbara and David. Thank you both so very much.

C and J North Yorkshire.

Dear David and Barbara, We have had a wonderful stay in your delightful cottage. We go home relaxed and restored and look forward to our return visit in March 2024. Thank you for the 'welcome goodies' and for your welcoming hospitality.

V and J C Norwich.

Thank you, David and Barbara for providing such a beautiful warm comfortable cottage to stay in for our first week ever in Northumberland. We felt relaxed and de-stressed from the moment we arrived! The weather was changeable but on the whole good – we enjoyed our drive to Holy Island and even did some beachcombing while there. Embleton Bay and other stretches of glorious sand also a highlight. We had a day around Alnwick Gardens… Spectacular!! Not the most natural garden we've visited but very impressive.

Again thank you for our stay (and for the lovely welcome goodies)! It's such a beautiful cottage to stay and explore such a beautiful region!

J and C Burton on Trent Staffordshire

We have had a wonderful week at Mill Cottage and managed to explore lots of Northumberland. The weather hasn't been too bad and hasn't stopped us doing anything. Thank you for the welcome back which was a lovely touch.

P and Kay Camberley Surrey.

We spent a week in this beautiful cottage as a base to explore the stunning Northumberland coastline. The weather has been amazing during our week which made our visit even better. Thank you, David and Barbara, for the welcome pack - a lovely touch!

L and A Southport.

Thank you, David and Barbara. We had a wonderful week staying in Mill Cottage. We enjoyed long walks along the Northumberland coastal paths and also ventured into the Cheviots. Holy Island, Bamburgh and Craster, all worth a visit at least once!

A and B J Oxford.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Mill Cottage. The warm welcome set the tone for a wonderful week of sightseeing in this beautiful area. We made return visits to Crastera and Warkworth and broke new ground at Chillingham Castle – all delightful locations. Looking forward to returning to this beautiful location in the near future.

J and S Leeds.

Thank you to David and Barbara for their warm welcome and hospitality. Mill Cottage is the perfect base for a holiday in this beautiful area. Can recommend the Whitling House for Sunday lunch in Alnmouth and the Tankerville locally for every day meals. Bertrams at Walkworth does lovely home-made cakes! Most beaches are great for walking and did a lovely walk (number 4) in the 'Walks in the Cheviots' book, here. Visited Ford and Etal (lovely Waterfords Hall at Ford) has stunning friezes on the walls). Newcastle on the train from Alnmouth Station made for an easy journey. Looking forward to our return next year!!

D and I A.

We've had a fabulous week in this amazing cottage and have enjoyed visiting areas of interest in beautiful Northumberland. We can recommend Bamburgh Castle Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Holy Island and Cragside is a must! Also a walk along Bamburgh and Alnmouth beaches, too. Food across road at Tankerville is fab too. Thank you, David and Barbara for Welcome Pack and making this a comfortable place to holiday in.

C and T Buckinghamshire

We've had a lovely week. It's been a few years since we visited Northumberland so it was great to revisit Cragside, Bamburgh Castle and the lovely house and gardens at Wallington. We saw red squirrels on our walk at Wooler Common and also discovered "Happy Valley", a great two hour walk. Also recommended by the previous visitors, we found Stanton Hall Gardens and Nursery. Stunning (free!) gardens + loads of very well priced plants. Yes I bought a few!

Thank you for the lovely comfortable cottage. It's been a pleasure.

N and C East Sussex.

Another wonderful week here in this exceptional cottage. Not to mention the fabulous garden. Thank you David and Barbara. We loved visiting Stanton Hall Gardens and Nursery - what a find! No room in the car for anything else but bought 11 plants anyway! Going back there now and on our journey south.

Thank you again,

A & N Norfolk.

We've had a fantastic week. Beautiful cottage. Very peaceful, and immaculate accommodation. Really enjoyed sitting on the terrace above the stream with a glass of wine! We know the area well as we live in Newcastle so we didn't venture very far away, the weather has been so good it was just lovely to relax here. Hope to visit you again soon,

B and M Newcastle upon Tyne

We've had a very pleasant stay at your beautifully appointed cottage, a real home from home. The welcome pack was a very pleasant surprise and most "welcome".

The area is stunning and even managed to see some dolphins on our visit to (off) Amble. Thank you for the use of your lovely cottage to enable us to enjoy Northumberland.

R and A Walton, Sheffield

We can't add anything which hasn't already been said. The cottage is delightful and calming. Thank you D and B for goodies – we've had a lovely week and weather has been good!

B and B R Balsall Common, Solihull.

Another wonderful stay in Mill Cottage. Thank you so much, Barbara and David, for your hospitality. We have visited old haunts and new. Not having been to Northumberland at this time of year normally, it was lovely to see the fields covered in gorse, the blue bells and new-born lambs. Hopefully be returning for the fifth time next year.

E and P Oxfordshire.

We always look forward to our annual stay at Mill cottage. The cottage has everything you could need and is so comfortable and beautifully appointed. The welcome pack is much appreciated and a lovely touch. We love this area and have walked miles and miles both along the coast and in inland in the College Valley and Breamish Valley. We visited Chillingham Castle for the first time which is very quirky! The Stable Yard tea room was a lovely find just outside Craster on our coastal walk. Thank you David and Barbara for another lovely stay.

D and M Cheshire.

What a luxurious cottage, so comfortable and very tastefully decorated. Thank you for the very generous welcome pack of bread, eggs, milk, bacon, and a bottle of wine. We have enjoyed our week here in spite of the unsettled weather. We've been walking along the coast and further in land and have seen so many beautiful birds. We shall never forget Mill Cottage, surrounded by a lovely garden that that descends to a beautiful stream. Thank you David and Barbara.

A and M J Cheadle, Staffordshire.

Thank you, David and Barbara, your home is beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay, visiting plenty of places in this wonderful beautiful area. What a lovely place to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. Thank you once again,
Best regards,

G and D West Yorkshire.

Thank you, David and Barbara, for another lovely stay in Mill Cottage – our third time! It was great to have the wood burner after a day walking in the hills. We visited new places and the wildlife has been spectacular (as it always is in Northumberland) but the highlight was seeing the walrus in Blyth Harbour! We ate in the Tankerville Arms a few times and the food was delicious and the service was very good. No doubt we'll be back – we love it here!

All the best, V and C, Adlington Cheshire.

We've had a very relaxing time in your beautiful cottage. We enjoyed our Sunday lunch in the Village pub and had a very tasty lunch by the fire in the Red Lion in Alnmouth – thank you for the recommendation. We've visited Cragside near Rothbury. The drive there gives stunning views across to the Cheviots. We've walked along the coastal paths from Alnmouth and Bamburgh. The RNLI Grace Darling Museum in Bamburgh was very good and we also visited the church.

Thank you for your warm welcome and Merry Christmas!

C and K Nottinghamshire

Such a pleasure to be staying in Mill Cottage where I lived as a child. Massively changed – for the better – thoughtfully renovated and beautifully presented. A lovely high-end kitchen and appliances, tasteful furnishings and bedroom and bathroom with good quality linens and towels – what else could you want?!

Thank you, David and Barbara, for making it so easy to settle in quickly, especially the lesson in lighting the log fire – most enjoyable stay and I soon felt at home again!

L and A Chester
PS the Cook & Barker is our personal favourite at Newton on the Moor.

Thank you for a lovely stay in your lovely cottage. Very well equipped and really comfortable. The welcome back was appreciated and very generous. Visited usual places but nice to come back and wander over to the pub for a couple of drinks. Hopefully will be back. Sorry about some of the writing but pen was running out!

J and H B, Springwell Village Gateshead Tyne and Wear

Thank you for a lovely stay in your cottage. We have relaxed and enjoyed the beaches around this beautiful area, the log fire was great on a rainy night.

Thank you very much!

S and J.

Thank you for a most wonderful few days. An excellent base for exploring the delights of Northumberland. We have enjoyed the hills and the coast and are already planning a return visit to explore some more.

S and C Buckinghamshire.

Wonderful as always. We are still finding new things to do as well as the old favourites. Thanks for the recommendation of Ford and Etal. Hope to return again.

J and M V.

Our third very relaxing stay in this wonderful accommodation.

So much to see both near and far. Thank you Barbara and David for your hospitality and we hope to see you again next year.

With Best wishes, E and P.

Our second stay at Mill Cottage and as excellent as ever. We have enjoyed some long walks from the cottage, peaceful, remote and affording some spectacular views completed by meals at the Tankerville Arms - a truly splendid break.

Thank you again, David and Barbara, hope to return next year!

C and D Wirral.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our week at your beautiful cottage. There are so many great places to visit nearby. We especially enjoyed our visit to Holy Island Bamburgh Castle and Gardens and Alnwick Gardens and Castle and enjoyed takeaway fish and chips overlooking the beautiful beach at Alnmouth. It is our first visit to Northumberland and we would love to return. The food at the Tankerville Arms across the road was first class. The cottage is lovely with all home comforts and such pretty gardens where we enjoyed our morning coffee in the peaceful surroundings!

Thank you, David and Barbara.
P and A Poynton, Cheshire.

We have enjoyed our first stay at Mill Cottage and notwithstanding the mixed weather. The cottage is well-appointed and conveniently located for both local attractions and the coast. We found Alnwick Castle Bamburg Castle, Cragside and Paxton house were very interesting and well worth a visit.

M & R Surrey.

We have really enjoyed our short stay at this beautiful cottage. The cottage and gardens and the stream at the back are so relaxing. With such a short stay, we got to Howick Hall and Gardens- really nice, Amble, Alnwick and some nice walks. Food was good at the pub opposite - go for the steak and chips - top draw. We hope to come back next year for a longer stay.
Thank you David and Barbara - hope to see you next year!

T & S Doncaster

We've had a wonderful week here in your very comfortable cottage. Our first visit to Northumberland… It won't be our last! We were blessed with lovely weather in which to explore the fantastic coastline and pretty villages. Highlights were Bamburgh, a boat trip around the Farne Islands from Seahouses, Crasta and Cragside (a must visit!) and dinner at the Potted Lobster.
Thank you, David and Barbara, for making us so welcome, you have done a fabulous job with the cottage, a real home from home.

Our best wishes,

C & R, Yorkshire Dales.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week in this beautiful cottage – especially as the weather was good enough to take advantage of your lovely gardens. Walking around Holy Island and eating at the Jolly Fisherman in Crasta were particular highlights!

C and P B, Witshirel.

Thank you for your warm welcome to Mill cottage. It is just as comfortable, clean and cosy as we remembered from our last visit. The peace and quiet is wonderful – so nice to come home to after a busy day out. We have enjoyed walks on Warkworth, Alnmouth & Embleton beaches; Ingram Valley (small but nice tea shop). Can also recommend the Tankerville in the village; the Boathouse in Amble, The Whittling House in Alnmouth & the Jolly Fisherman in Craster. Bertrams in Warkworth is good for home-made cakes too! We will never tire of visiting this beautiful area so are already looking forward to our next visit,

D & I A Yorkshire

Thank you for a lovely week. We enjoyed trips to Almouth Beach + Village, Cragside, Howick Hall, locally. We had electric bikes and cycled around Kielder Water, a reservoir + park about 1 ½ hours drive from here. The Rockinghorse Café is not far from Eglingham + a nice place for lunch + is dog friendly if relevant to you. We were not too impressed with Cresswellbeach and surrounds. Best to stick to the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Allow a full day cycling Kielder Lakeside way + take plenty of water + snacks - only two cafés both on South side enjoy your week!

M & N

A wonderful place to stay for our first trip to Northumberland. Love the variation within a short drive; we walked in the Cheviot Hills, along the coast, round the walls of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Alnwick Gardens were a pleasant surprise.
Most of our food was taken over the road – Sunday Dinner was a nice treat.
Will now thoroughly recommend a holiday. In Northumberland & this lovely cottage too.
J & P, Northamptonshire

(PS Saw a seal & 'jumping fish' in sea at Berwick!)

What a delightful, beautifully furnished & equipped cottage, surrounded by beautiful gardens! We have had a most enjoyable time exploring the coast, the castles, the gardens & the Cheviots. It has been restful, restorative & David & Barbara have been gracious & welcoming hosts.

R & D, Oxford

Another wonderful week in your elegant & so restful cottage, enjoying the wonderful scenery & coastal walks. We have explored some new & unfamiliar corners too! It takes a long time & driving endurance to get here, but it is worth it every time & we shall live on our memories for another year. The garden s worth a trip for itself alone!
Thanks once more – hope your hol was as good as ours has been!

H & B L, Bristol

A lovely week. Great walking & excellent local pubs & restaurants.
Mill Cottage was superb & exceeded our expectations.
Many thanks to David & Barbara for making us feel so welcome.
We hope to return.

J & T, Nottinghamshire

We have really enjoyed our stay at Mill Cottage and would like to thank David & Barbara for such a warm welcome on our arrival. The use of the gardens is an added bonus wher you can sit & relax with a book & a drink after a busy day sightseeing.
We have visited Cragside, both house & gardens are well worth a visit. Howick House has beautiful gardens with wild flower meadows. We found Alnwick Castle a little pricey & not to our tastes. We highly recommend the boat trip around the Farne Islands to see the puffins & other sea birds with Serenity. Newton by the Sea has lovely panoramic views. The Packhorse at Ellingham serves good quality food which is not too expensive. In the evenings it is advisable to book a table as it can be rather busy,

B & J, High Peak, Derbyshire

The cottage & the garden right down to the burn are noting short of very very good. The location of the Inn at 100 yards is ideal.
The position of Mill Cottage is superb with ease of access to the North Sea Coas, the Cheviot Hills & the Scottish Borders. We have had a great week here.

S & A

We have had an amazing 2 weeks in this superb cottage. David & Barbara are the perfect hosts – there when you need them, unseen when you don't. Places, favourite Howick Hall "Earl Grey", amazing gardens, Alnwick Gardens & Castle take a picnic rug & food. Holy Island go "am" too busy in the afternoons.
Food – Tankerville Arms superb pub food, fish & chips are huge, prices reasonable, Italian facing Playhouse in Alnwick, lovely. Petrol – Morrisons in Alnwick, cheapest.
Ensure you walk the hills around Eglingham – see David's advice. Go onto Northumberland.gov.uk/Parking/Parkinglocations-chargesaspx shows all free carparks. Buy orange disc at start of hols.
We have had superb evenings on the patio listening to the evening chorus, then inside to a cozy log fire.
Score is 10/10 amazing "home from home". One of our best UK holidays. Thank you for sharing.

K & K, St. Helens

We have enjoyed a lovely week in this extremely comfortable cottage.
We have particularly enjoyed Craster & the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle. Recommend Bistro 23 Alnmouth & the Barn at Beal.

C & S T, West Yorkshire

Mill Cottage proved an ideal place for our first stay in Northumberland. The welcome pack & a welcoming host gave us a great start to our week & we have enjoyed the walks & drives around this beautiful county – with no rain. Cragside (NT), Bamburgh, Holy Island & Embleton Bay & the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle & Craster were highlights.
Many thanks David & Barbara for sharing your lovely cottage with us.

S & L F (Cardiff)

Yet another fantastic week at beautiful Mill Cottage. We've walked about 80 miles during our week in the Cheviots & on the Coast. The free carpark at Hethpool in the College Valley is great & a starting point for several walks. Always lovely to return each day to Mill Cottage & relax. The garden is an added bonus.
Thank you David & Barbara for another lovely stay & for making mill Cottage so comfortable. The welcome pack is a very thoughtful touch.
See you next time,

D & M (Cheshire)

We've loved our first visit to Northumberland. We packed in visits to everywhere on our wish list but always enjoyed coming back to Mill Cottage. Although the weather has been dry we've made much more use of the log burner than the outside seating! The garden, however, is a delight & it was wonderful to enjoy the peace of the burn & to see dippers.
We had great meals at the Tankerville Arms & the Potted Lobster in Bamburgh – recommend booking.
Thank you David & Barbara for such a lovely place to stay.

S & C, Ealing London

Thank you David & Barbara for a fantastic week! Your cottage is beautiful – home form home – perfect location between coast & countryside. We've had a fabulous time! We will be back!
Thank you

L & P, Reading Berkshire

What a find! Fabulous property finished to a very high standard. Really enjoyable week in this superb home from home.
Looking forward to re-booking next year.
Thank you David & Barbara. Lovely unexpected 'Welcome Pack', too. Hopefully return again in '23.

B & G M, Derby

As always, we have been extremely comfortable & well provided for here at Mill Cottage. Thank you David & Barbara.
We shall be returning south with more happy memories of all that this stunning part of Northumberland has to offer.

C & T, Oxfordshire

Most enjoyable stay in unusually fine March weather. The accommodation & quiet setting were ideal & we relished trips to Barter Books, to the huge sands at Alnmouth & to Alnwick & its castle gardens. Seeing not just pheasants but a hare & some deer on the road up past Eglingham Moor was a grand bonus.

R & A, Edinburgh

Thank you for a lovely comfortable cottage, nice to return to after a day sightseeing. Friendly pub with great food over the road, so convenient. Highly recommend Cragside (not to be missed) also walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle.
Cannot believe the number of trees down following recent storms, such a beautiful area.

D & K, NE Lincolnshire

What a wonderful week. Wall to wall sunshine (almost) & a beautiful cottage to rest & relax in each evening. Lovely walks in the Cheviots (Ingram & Happy Valley) & excellent birding on the unspoiled coast with empty beaches & clear blue skies. We were amazed at the devastation caused by Arwen.
It has been some 35 years since we last stayed in Northumberland. Clearly we have been missing out.
Than you Barbara & David for a lovely home from home.

M & P O, Norfolk

Having previously holidayed in virtually all other parts of England, we finally plucked up courage to venture north. Now we know just how much we've been missing! We've thoroughly enjoyed our time here in this wonderful area, and in this cozy cottage.
We will definitely return to discover more of Northumberland.

M & D, North Lincolnshire

Beautiful cottage, decorated to a high standard. In a fantastic location which allows you to explore Northumberland & surrounding areas.
Beautiful gardens, would love to see in summer.
Thank you very much for welcome pack – much appreciated!
Home from home comforts with Sky TV/games.
Had a fantastic break & lots of fresh air!

J & S, Durham

What a beautiful cottage. We have had a much needed delightful stay. The welcome pack was wonderful – thank you!
The cottage is so well equipped – home from home.
We enjoyed a meal at the Tankerville Arms. It was quick, hot + the staff lovely. We would recommend a visit there.
The surrounding areas are beautiful. We had the loveliest day on Holy island although it is the windiest place we've ever been to. We look forward to returning again in 2022. So grateful for the excellence in abundance at Mill Cottage.

S & S, Dorset

Thank you for clearing the roads after the Great Storm for our arrival!!! What a devastation. Lovely to see you both & allowing us to use your beautiful cosy cottage.

My husband & I have had a truly amazing stay in this delightful cottage. Immaculate inside & a lovely place to relax in the peace & quiet after some superb walking, locally. We ate out most nights in the Tankerville Arms pub which didn't disappoint.
Thank you David & Barbara for a super stay & we will return!

C & D, Holdsworth, Wirral

This is the first time we have stayed at Mill cottage. What a lovely place to stay. We have really enjoyed our stay, very relaxing & peaceful.
We have visited quite a few places in the car & walking the scenery is stunning. The pub across the road food good, staff very friendly & welcoming. Thank you both for the lovely starter pack – very welcome.

C & S H, Bolton, Manchester

So pleased we finally made it to Mill Cottage, third time lucky! Thank you Barbara & David. Such a quiet, cosy, comfortable cottage, in an ideal location for both coast & beautiful countryside. And a good pub just across the road, too, perfect!
The carriage drive at Cragside on a sunny day & a walk around the lakes at eth top was a delight.
Many thanks,

S&C Witney, Oxfordshire

This is the second time we have stayed at Mill Cottage & again we have thoroughly enjoyed it. The cottage is very comfortable & is happily situated between the coast & the countryside. We had a beautiful day on Lindisfarne which included a walk from the Castle (Be aware you need £7 in change for the parking machine, or there is only one machine taking cards in the centre of the car park). We did the Happy Valley walk again & a walk from Bamburgh to Budle Bay & spotted dolphins in the sea (wonderful!). The houses & gardens nearby are also very pleasant. We ate out at the 'The Whittling' in Alnmouth which was v good. If you want to eat at the 'Potted Lobster' book as soon as you arrive!
Thank you again,

J & M V, Ashwell Herts

What a beautiful cottage – with the added bonus of a thoughtful welcome pack.
Lovely weather – stunning tranquil scenery, all in all balm to the soul.

What a wonderful, activity-packed week we have had in this beautiful part of the world. There is so much to do & see & we have thoroughly enjoyed walking, golfing, cycling & visits to Housesteads & Alnwick Castle. We have been so lucky with the weather, too – although the wind was a challenge to the seaside birds!
Mill Cottage is so comfortable. We had planned to eat out more but ended up cooking here & settling in for a relaxing evening in the lovely lounge. Many thanks to David & Barbara for making us so welcome & providing such beautiful accommodation.

What a blissful place! The cottage itself is wonderfully appointed (&, as others have said, looks much more spacious IRL), & one of the very best Premier Cottages I've experienced; the gardens are just exceptional – we were fortunate enough to have beautiful weather to make the most of the various burn-side seating options – what a boon! Eglingham made for a perfect location to explore both coastline & Cheviot countryside. We would strongly recommend walking the coast South from Craster (tho' also, separately, doing Dunstanburgh Castle), approaching Simonside from Rothbury & climbing the Schil (thank you, David, for the tip about getting a permit for College Valley online). So much left still to do – we shall return with delight. Many thanks, David & Barbara.

This is our second visit to Eglingham & Mill Cottage & everything, apart from the mixed weather, was perfect! The sun shone on our first. Day & on the last.
We love the greenhouse, a new addition since last year. There are plenty of sitting areas to relax in when not exploring the local area with wonderful vistas that Northumberland has to offer.
Although we have been to Northumberland many times in the past, staying further up with family & friends, there are still places we haven't ha time to visit & new ones, too, so we will hopefully return. The Tankerville Arms, opposite, do good pub food & so handy (no driving necessary). Bistro 23 in Alnmouth do good sandwiches & lunch.
Thanks, David for your hospitality & the welcome pack (+ courgettes!)

Another lovely week in 'majestic' Northumbria & your beautiful cottage! Wonderful scenery to welcome us back again, a wild coastline & such friendly people. This time we managed to see inside of Bamburgh Castle & discovered Lutyen's "castle" & Gertrude Jekyll's amazing little garden at the bleaker end of Holy Island. Rothbury is a delightful small market town – very good cheese counter in the delicatessen & a superb pub lunch at the 'Turk's Head'. We love your new Victorian style greenhouse & comforted to see your tomatoes are still green like ours back in Bristol! Thankyou once more for a restful week in your elegantly decorated cottage & ingenious garden!

Superb cottage, we have absolutely loved our week here. A much needed break, we have enjoyed exploring this beautiful part of the world as well as recharging our batteries here at Mill Cottage with its beautiful garden & patio. Good food at the pub, right across the road. Very handy!
Many thanks, A&D N – Montrose, Angus

PS Thanks for the goodies!

This is a second stay at Mill Cottage & it was just as good as the first visit, if not better!
The cottage is beautifully appointed & the welcome pack was very much appreciated.
The Tankweville Arms was excellent – great food & service, we were there three times!
We've explored the area & the coast is a particular draw especially as its only 20 minutes away. We also went to the College Valley & climbed up to the Schil – fantastic views.
Hopefully, we'll be back soon to enjoy this wonderful cottage. Many thanks to David & Barbara – they are excellent hosts.

What a lovely cottage! Cosy, clean & perfectly furnished. Great setting, village is pretty with a good pub which serves tasty food. The patio area is a great little sun trap & perfect for sitting outside with a cuppa in the morning or wine in the evening. The welcome pack was an added bonus. Thanks, D & B, we will be recommending.

Best wishes,, J&M, Newmarket, Suffolk

We have had a wonderful break in your magnificent cottage. Highlights of our stay include trips to the coast, a fantastic day in Edinburgh & enjoyable meals at the Tankerville Arms. It has also been fantastic just to sit in the sun in the courtyard, enjoying time with family. Thank you very much. We hope to return,

A lovely stay, peaceful & tranquil. Beautiful gardens & flowers, we have had super weather for our cheese & wine in this lovely setting. Saw a heron flying off at the bottom of the garden, Beautiful beach at Bamburgh, quaint little streets in Alnwick, we will return to. This area after our first visit to Northumberland. Visited 'The Potted Lobster' in Bamburgh, twice, can recommend if you are seafood lovers, like us! Super cottage, a delight & well worth the visit.

Best wishes, T & I

Another fantastic week in beautiful Mill Cottage.
Everything is perfect & we are sad to leave. We have fallen in love with Northumberland which is a walkers' paradise.
Thank you so much David & Barbara & we look forward to seeing you next time.
