Mill Cottage, Eglingham, Northumberland : Holiday Information
Here are some comments taken from our guest book.
Dear David and Barbara,
Our second stay at Mill Cottage has been equally as enjoyable as the first. Thank you so much for providing everything we could wish of a holiday cottage and more!
The week has flown by. We have revisited old haunts and otherwise just pottered. We walked from the house to Shepherds law in lovely spring sunshine, found the Hermitage and even got to meet Brother Harold! The church there is a tremendous achievement and reminded us of a little corner of Greece!
And now we are returning south, leaving you with our best wishes for a successful summer with your holiday house.
With kind regards,
C & T H (Oxfordshire)
We really enjoyed our short stay in your delightful cottage so very warm and welcoming! It was so nice to come to Eglingham where my great-grandparents had lived in the late 1800s and raised their family. We hope to be back again!
G & W I (Dunbartonshire)
We have had a lovely week in the cottage. It was a shame the weather was wet and wild but lovely to return to such a cosy and warm home. Everything has been 5* and we look forward to returning in the future.
J & C (Clitheroe, Lancs)
What a beautiful holiday cottage. The Welcome Grocery-Pack was a pleasant surprise and the bottle of wine was a lovely touch. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, Mill Cottage is a credit to your dedication and hard work. We will definitely recommend this fabulous little gem to friends and family.

Weve had a fantastic week, really glorious weather and beautiful setting and the cottage has been just perfect. Highlight of our trip was seeing the puffins on the Farne Islands. Thank you. We hope to be back again in the future.

Thank you David and Barbara for a lovely stay in your beautiful cottage. Everything has been perfect and we couldnt have wished for anything more. The welcome pack was a lovely touch, too. Weve walked miles and miles in the week and enjoyed every minute. Our highlights were seeing dolphins on our Farne islands trip and walking Pilgrims Way in our bare feet to Lindisfarne. Davids tips on walking in the Cheviots were spot on, too. We will definitely return to this beautiful part of our Country.
D & M D (Cheshire)
Thank you for the wonderful stay at your perfect cottage. The weather has been generally good, with only one day of rain. Lovely countryside and some greta walks on your doorstep.

A charming & extremely comfortable cottage in one of our favourite parts of the country, another superb Premier Cottage. The highlights of our excellent week were seeing dolphins from Bamburgh beach, local walks, the curiosities of Chillingham & beautiful Warkworth. Excellent meals at the Seafood Restaurant, Craster & La Khazana @ Shilbottle. Thank you David & Barbara, we will be back.

Barbara and David, We felt at home in your wonderful cottage which, incidentally, is larger than it appears on the website within minutes of arriving. Eglingham is fantastic base for getting around the Northumberland area and we thoroughly enjoyed our Anniversary holiday, here.

Our third visit to this exquisite holiday cottage! As always we have been much taken with this beautiful underpopulated part of the country with its stunning landscapes, huge beaches and empty roads. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Sad to leave this lovely 5* retreat! Thank you so much for your kind hospitality. Cottage first class with lovely touches. Total peaceful relaxation in a lovely part of Northumberland. Highlight a walk on the beach at Newton-by-the-sea followed by a lovely pub lunch at the Ship Inn, another hidden jem. Thank you,

Dont want to go home!!! This has been a little slice of heaven and the perfect way to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The cottage is absolutely beautiful. Cant believe how lucky we have been to find it. The outside spaces are fabulous! Cant wait to return to see how the riverside garden develops. The surrounding countryside is amazing. We would highly recommend the walk up to Bewley Hill Fort. The views from the top are incredible! Many thanks, David & Barbara.
R & P S
What a beautifully furnished and equipped cottage! We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Loved the daffodil banks and walk around Howick Hall gardens (Earl Grey) with lunch in the ballroom.
Enjoyed fish meals at the `potted Lobster in Bamburgh and the Joiners Arms at Newton-by-the-Sea with associated bracing walks along the beaches.
G&C L (Lancs)
Dear David and Barbara,
Well what can we say! Stunning cottage, stunning countryside, stunning coast! To say Northumberland exceeded our expectations is an understatement. We loved it!
Our trip culminated in your walk to Linhope Spout a magical spot, not another soul around and we even saw (for quite some time) a red squirrel. What with that and puffins in the Farnes, many, many items ticked-off the bucket list.
Thank you so much once again for helping to make this the most wonderful week. We will be back!
All the very best.
Perfect cottage, perfect location & perfect weather for our first (and definitely not the last) stay in Northumberland.
We loved the walking, especially the Upper Coquet Valley walk David recommended to Windy Gyle (well named). Also loved the wildlife including the unmissable Farne Islands with enough puffins & arctic terns to keep us happy and fill the camera disc! Favourite places to eat were the Potted Lobster (Bamburgh) & Jolly Fisherman (Craster) with amazing lobster & chips. Also enjoyed the Percy Arms.
Thanks David for recommending Howick Gardens, we walked there from Craster on the inland path then after a full exploration exited via the lower gate to the coast path for the walk back making a great day.
Im certain we will be back soon.
A very enjoyable stay in such a beautiful cottage. The weather has been good to us too and we have had some lovely trips out visiting familiar places. Even managed a trip to Edinburgh on the train from Alnmouth a real treat.
Thank you for the welcome goodies and providing everything you could need in a fantastic holiday home. Just perfect.
J&M P (S. Yorks)
Our second stay at beautiful Mill Cottage. Everything has been perfect and we dont want to leave! The Cottage has everything you need and more! The welcome pack is such a thoughtful touch too.
This area is a walkers paradise. Weve walked on the coast on deserted beaches, walked in the Cheviots and also walked from the Cottage.
A trip to the Farne Islands is a must.
Thank you David & Barbara,
D&M D (Cheshire)
We completely endorse everything previously said in this book and more. Exceeding our expectations. We hope to return. Thank you for the welcome pack.
B&J S (Colchester)
What an amazing place to stay. Coastal walks are fantastic.
Thank you for everything.
Weve had a great weekend the cottage is gorgeous and the weather held!
For future visitors, Chillingham Castle is a must!

Another good holiday in beautiful Northumberland and an excellent cottage.
D&M P (Lancs)
A beautifully appointed and equipped cottage - a very comfortable place to stay.
Have enjoyed castles, coasts & Cheviots.
Local pub food very good but fairly limited menu.
A drive to Kielder Water via Rothbury & Otterburn is a good day out.
J&L (W Sussex)
We loved staying here and loved the limited sights of Northumberland that our short stay permitted us to see. Notwithstanding the previous entrys reservations about the pub menu, we absolutely reveled in the excellent beer (the local brews) and in being able to return back from the pub in about twenty paces. A real first for us!
Had a super week in a lovely area & excellent cottage.
Can recommend beach walks at Warkworth (with food at Bertrams), Bamburgh, Alnmouth (with Sunday lunch at the Red Lion in the restaurant but MUST book in advance!). Also, lunch at Robsons Seafood Restaurant at Craster was delicious! Very good meal at the Tankerville Arms also. Our week is over too soon & we look forward to returning to Northumberland soon.
D&E A (Yorks)

This was our first visit to Northumberland. Its such a delightful place.
The welcome pack was much appreciated. The cottage is warm and welcoming and beautifully furnished.
We hope to visit again soon!
Thank you David and Barbara for the amazing facility of Mill Cottage. We stay in a variety of properties but yours is the tops. We have had a wonderful week, especially given the weather at this time of year.
There is so much beauty and so much to do in the area, we particularly enjoyed Cragside and the Alnwick Gardens, not forgetting Lindisfarne!
We are disappointed to be homeward bound.
P.S. Lunch at the Tree Restaurant, Alnwick Gardens was a treat!
Thank you for a memorable week in beautiful Mill Cottage, we have felt very much at home here and have enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. Visited Alnwick, Warkworth, Bamburgh and Lindisfarne Castles, lots of beach walks and a boat trip to the Farne Islands will certainly be remebred as we were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins.
This has been a perfect peaceful haven, thanks again we will certainly love to return.
J&K P (Wensleydale)

Thank you David and Barbara for a lovely few days in your luxurious and spacious cottage for two. This has been the perfect location for our visits to Cragside, Barter Books in Alnwick, Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
We have enjoyed several meals across the road at the Tankerville Arms, so convenient and welcoming.
A&R B (Bournville)

Lovely Cottage, equipped and furnished to the highest standard. Good local pub for a meal, limited menu but food excellent.
Weather has been kind.
